Symplicity Wins Contract to Build Automated Publishing and Information System for U.S. Army
August 26th, 2002 9:00am EDT. Arlington, VA.
Symplicity Corporation has been selected by U.S. Army EOD Technology Division to deploy a web-based automated publishing system (APS) and Information System that will enable EOD personnel to auto-generate Country Handbooks for Weapons and Ammunition and High Risk Handbooks based on selection criteria. Symplicity will also create a web-based Information System that will facilitate the preparation, storage, search, retrieval, and publishing of ID Guides, Technical Information (TI), Data Sheets (DS), and MDRs for U.S. and Foreign Munitions for internal operations in EOD Technology Division.
The EOD Technology Division of the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) has the responsibility to provide EOD functional support to U.S. Army Munitions Developers to ensure new munitions are EOD supportable. This means that new U.S. munitions have EOD coverage in terms of information to accurately identify the munition, and having verified procedures for EOD technicians to render safe and dispose of the munition in the event they become unusable or they become duds upon launch, firing, dispensing.
Similarly, information on foreign munitions is published by Army activities, such as the U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC EOD Technology Division, Picatinny Arsenal, that routinely compiles technical information on foreign ground munitions and weapon systems and associated end item weapons to create specialty handbooks. The handbooks serves as identification guides to positively identify foreign munitions and weapon systems so that a host of functions can be performed to safely dispose of foreign munitions, safing and down loading weapons, or to transport these foreign munitions to a safe disposal area. The IS/APS will produce small handbooks that can be transported within a military battle dress uniform (BDU) cargo pocket. In the future, the IS/APS will be transferred to a digital version for loading on to palm pilots, laptops, and other small personal devices.
"We are excited to enter into a relationship with the U.S. Army," said Ariel Friedler, President of Symplicity Corporation. "We look forward to leveraging our experience in ensuring a timely, energetic and cost-effective development of technologies that helps DOD defend against today’s evolving threats."
