On August 26, 2025, New York signed into law A5448B/S4559B, the first legislation in the nation requiring every college and university to appoint a Title VI Anti-Discrimination Coordinator.

This new mandate strengthens protections against discrimination based on race, color, and national origin.

Starting November 2026, every institution in New York must have a dedicated coordinator, annual training for all students and staff, and clear reporting procedures in place.
