Conference Recap: 2018 CSM Symposium

Our annual CSM Symposium was held June 3rd-5th in New Orleans. Every year, CSM users worldwide get together to share best practices and skills to foster student success. Representatives from all types of institutions, from large universities to community colleges to law and graduate schools attended to deepen their knowledge of CSM and learn from their peers.

The conference started off with a welcome reception at Fogo De Chao on Canal St. The event was a great opportunity to meet all the attendees and network with other Symplicity users.

Later we broke out into sessions that included a mix of trainings and client best practices, such as using the OCR module to offer mock interviews, delivered by Wentworth Institute of Technology, and engaging faculty and students through class assignments, given by Illinois State University. Attendees learned best practices, tips and tricks, and additional features they might not have used before. It's always great to hear how clients use our products and have them share information with other users.

Following the breakout sessions, our Keynote speaker, Jeff Selingo, author of “There is Life After College”, gave an engaging speech on the typical paths students take after college. Jeff Selingo is a best-selling author and award-winning columnist who helps parents and higher-education leaders imagine the college and university of the future and how to succeed in a fast-changing economy. Jeff's speech was the highlight of the event, "Excelling at any job is about doing the things you weren't asked to do,” Jeff said.

"For us, the answer is not just MORE jobs – it’s about providing more relevant and high-quality opportunities" - Matt Small, President & CEO

“In many ways the modern work world looks a lot like a pre-school classroom where curiosity, sharing, and negotiating are front and center.” – Jeff Selingo

The day continued with breakout sessions. These included trainings, panels, and best practice sharing lead by current CSM users from colleges and universities.

Of course, we needed some healthy competition, so we hosted trivia.  The questions were a mix of New Orleans history and general knowledge of CSM.

The day ended with a client appreciation party at Pat O’briens on Bourbon street. We enjoyed sips, appetizers, and another opportunity to network.

This year’s CSM Symposium provided us and our clients with unmatched opportunities to build expertise and share best practices for handling student conduct issues in higher education. On behalf of the entire Symplicity CSM team, we’re very proud of what we have been able to accomplish in collaboration with all of our attendees and look forward to next year!

Watch the highlights!
