Webinar Recap: Title IX Series, Part III: Training the Campus: Requirements and Best Practices under TIX and Clery

For our third and final Title IX webinar, Laurel Pyke Malson and Rebecca Springer from Crowell & Moring presented on Training the Campus: Requirements and Best Practices under TIX and Clery. Watch the full recorded webinar here.

Let’s remember that the real purpose of Title IX is to keep your campus safe.

“Training the entire campus is good offense. It provides the tools to prevent or at least lessen the likelihood of sexual misconduct on campus, and also to remediate the resulting harm if sexual misconduct does occur,” said Laurel. “It’s also very good defense, because it demonstrates that your institution is proactive and it also helps to mitigate damages in the event of an OCR investigation because it shows that your university has acted reasonably with respect to its duty of do care under Title IX.”

Rebecca presented a few recent developments in this area and the law. One important fact she stated was that currently, as of September, there are 133 universities and colleges under OCR Investigations, and that number is expected to continue to rise.

The presenters then discussed various pitfalls to avoid falling into in the process of managing Title IX, sharing examples of best practices and explaining all the requirements for training an entire campus. To learn more about campus training, view part III of the webinar series here.
